Two additional border checkpoints may be built in Aktobe Region on the border with Russia – Aike in the Aitekebi District and Kiyaly in the Martuk District, Kazinform reports.

At present, the Zhaisan and Alimbet border crossing points operate on the border between Aktobe Region and Russia. Last year, repair work began at the Alimbet checkpoint. The work was scheduled for 16 months and is expected to be completed this year.

It had been planned to temporarily close the border checkpoint during the reconstruction. However, due to the situation at the Zhaisan checkpoint, a bypass road was arranged. The checkpoint operations were temporarily relocated there. Currently, traffic between the two countries is carried out without any restrictions. The old building has been completely demolished, and construction work is underway. The work will be completed this year. Thirty-six people have been involved in the construction. During the reconstruction of the Alimbet checkpoint, the Kargaly District akimat allocated 10 hectares of land. In addition, an extra lane for parking will be built as part of the project implementation. There will be six main traffic lanes, – said Aibol DANAGUL, Director of the Aktobe Regional Branch of KazAvtoZhol.

Two more border checkpoints may be built in Aktobe Region. At present, Semipalatinsk Grazhdanproekt is engaged in the design work. The project will be submitted for state expertise in April. The estimated cost of the project is 1 billion tenge.
