Last year, the drug already passed stages of clinical trials involving human participants

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat NURBEK, announced when the development of the country’s first anti-cancer drug will be completed, Kazinform reports.

According to him, work on the DVC drug is being carried out by the National Laboratory Astana at Nazarbayev University.

“Last year, we completed stages of clinical trials involving human subjects. What is happening now? We have changed the clinical base, meaning that these trials are now being finalized here at the oncology center in Astana, with several regional oncology centers in Karaganda also joining,” Sayasat Nurbek said.

As the minister noted, delays in the drug’s development were caused by the need to comply not only with national but also international requirements.

“Additional clinical trials on human subjects were required. We continued them in Almaty, and now they must also be conducted in Astana and several regions. These clinical trials are ongoing. We are working closely with the Ministry of Healthcare and the National Center for Drug Registration and Expertise. There are very strict regulations, and we also have to comply with additional EAEU standards,” he explained.

The authorities plan to complete all trials and submit the drug for registration by the end of the year.

“Once we complete the registration procedure, clinics will be able to use it,” Sayasat Nurbek added.
