Drivers can easily end up behind bars for 10 days

Authorities in the Akmola Region have identified about 30 drivers involved in dangerous drifting incidents, Kazinform reports.

For some motorists, drifting has become a way to attract attention, demonstrate their driving skills, or simply gain more views on social media. However, behind those spectacular videos can be damaged vehicles, ruined road surfaces, and even traffic accidents.

Police in the Akmola Region note that such activities are most often carried out by very young drivers.

“We all want to show ourselves off, impress our friends, or record a video that will collect plenty of likes. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks about how such maneuvers can end. Sharp turns, high speeds, and vehicle skids are not just noise in a residential area or eye-catching content for social media. Drifting can be dangerous both for the driver and for others around them. In addition, it damages tires, vehicles, and road surfaces,” the press service of the Akmola Region Police Department said.

Moreover, such entertainment can result in more than just a wrecked car. These actions may be classified as petty hooliganism under administrative law.

Authorities in the Akmola Region have already identified around 30 drivers who took part in similar races.

“One of the offenders was tracked down after a video appeared on social media. In the town of Makinsk, a driver decided to drift around another vehicle. At high speed, he repeatedly sent his car into a skid. Someone recorded the incident and posted it online,” the department noted.

Police identified the driver, who admitted his guilt. An administrative report was filed, and he was held liable for petty hooliganism. On October 5, the court reviewed the case and sentenced him to 10 days of administrative arrest.

“For the sake of a few seconds of spectacular footage, a driver risks far more: their own safety, the lives of others, and their vehicle. The real question is not how many likes such a video will receive, but how the next skid might end,” police concluded.
