Kazakhstan suspends oil supplies to Germany via “Druzhba”

Reason — technical problems with infrastructure

Kazakhstan has temporarily stopped sending its oil to Germany through the “Druzhba” pipeline, the Ministry of Energy of the republic reported.

The ministry explained that pumping Kazakh crude along the Atyrau–Samara route, which connects to “Druzhba” toward Germany, is currently halted. The reason is technical problems with transit-side infrastructure.

Officials added that supplies could resume once these restrictions are resolved. “Deliveries may be resumed in the prescribed manner if appropriate agreements are reached between all interested parties,” the ministry stated.

Since May 1, Kazakh oil has been going to Germany bypassing “Druzhba” due to technical capabilities. At that time, the Ministry of Energy announced that volumes would be redirected through the Russian port of Ust-Luga and via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). Later, in July, the ministry clarified that pumping through “Druzhba” was not planned for July and August.

It was later reported that on July 31 the CPC suspended pipeline operations but continued to accept crude from shippers. The Kazakh Ministry of Energy denied rumors of a complete CPC shutdown, calling such a scenario not under consideration. The ministry emphasized that it is keeping the situation under control and is in regular contact with the consortium’s management. They also specified that since August 1 the daily intake volume has been 100,000 tons.
