Russia remains the main supplier of crude to the country

Georgia has purchased oil from Kazakhstan for the first time, according to data from the National Statistics Service of Georgia, reported by TASS.

In July, deliveries amounted to 5,500 tons worth $3.2 million. However, Russia remains the primary supplier of crude to Georgia. In the same month, Georgia imported 87,400 tons of Russian oil valued at $36.4 million.

In early August, Black Sea Petroleum announced that the Kulevi oil refinery in western Georgia would stop processing Russian oil. In July, the refinery received and processed Kazakh oil, and in August it expects a shipment from Libya. The company stated it continues to cooperate with the European Commission on a diversification plan.

At the end of July, Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over the inclusion of the Kulevi refinery in the EU’s 21st anti-Russian sanctions package. The ministry’s statement noted that “not a single case of circumventing EU sanctions against Russia has been recorded on Georgian territory.” The ban will take effect on January 25, 2027. The EU has promised not to enforce sanctions against the refinery if by that time it ceases using Russian oil.
