The decline in water levels in recent years has led to the emergence of Rybachiy Island in the northern part of the Caspian Sea

Due to the ongoing drop in water levels, new land areas are forming in the Caspian. One of the recently emerged sites was filmed from a bird’s‑eye view by Caspian Holiday founder Yerbolat MUKHASHOV, reports Lada.kz.

The appearance of new dry areas in this region has been observed over the past 4-5 years.

Location and Surrounding Areas

  • Geography: The new Rybachiy Island is located about 500 meters east of Svyatoi Island and 30 kilometers from the village of Bautino.
  • Shallowing Zone: The process has affected waters inhabited by Caspian seals — areas near the Kulaly, Morskoy, Svyatoi, Podgorny, Usharal, Mayakshykkan, and Dolgy islands.

Ecosystem of the Newly Formed Land

Although the territory has formed only recently, wild animals and birds have already been recorded there.

“The main inhabitants of the islands are wolves. Wild boars and badgers are also found here. Various species of fish and birds live in the coastal waters and on the islands,” noted Yerbolat Mukhashov.

Landing on the island was made possible with the assistance of Daniyar AKIMZHANOV, a well‑known defender of the Caspian Sea in Mangystau and eco‑expert. Specialists emphasized the uniqueness and scenic nature of the newly formed territory.
