Kazakhstan Yet to Set Timeline for Transition to Latin Script

Initial plan to switch by 2025 was postponed

Work continues in Kazakhstan on transitioning the Kazakh alphabet to Latin script, but no specific timeline has been determined.

According to azertag.az, citing Kazakh media, Deputy Chair of the Language Policy Committee under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Elmira ASAN stated that the project of the Kazakh alphabet based on Latin script and the rules of orthography are currently being refined.

The final deadline for the transition can only be set following a government directive.

Originally, the switch to Latin script was planned for 2025, but the timeline was later postponed.
