Thailand reduces visa-free stay for Kazakhstani citizens to 30 days

Under the new rules, visa-free entry will permit a stay of up to 30 days per visit

Starting from September, 15 citizens of Kazakhstan will be permitted to stay in Thailand visa-free for a maximum of 30 calendar days from the date of entry. The new rules will replace the previous 60-day visa-free regime, El.kz reports, citing the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Thailand.

For citizens of Kazakhstan, the provisions of the agreement between the governments of the two countries on the exemption of holders of national passports from visa requirements will apply. The agreement itself entered into force in February 2025.

Under the new rules, visa-free entry will permit a stay of up to 30 days per visit. At the same time, the cumulative period of stay must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period.

Those planning to stay in Thailand for more than one month will be required to obtain an appropriate visa in advance. The Embassy of Kazakhstan recommends taking this requirement into account when purchasing tickets and planning extended trips.

The changes will take effect on 15 September. The decision was previously approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Thailand.

Thailand has previously applied a 30-day visa-free regime to citizens of Kazakhstan. For example, this arrangement was in effect under a temporary programme launched in autumn 2023.

The visa-free stay period was subsequently extended; however, the Thai authorities have decided to reinstate stricter limits. In May, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak PHUANGKETKEOW explained the initiative as necessary to strengthen immigration controls and reduce cases of misuse of the visa-free regime.
