Kazakh company sanctioned by the U.S. over cooperation with Iran

American authorities have imposed sanctions on a company from Almaty

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has introduced sanctions against the Almaty-based firm Tour Invest LLC. Inclusion of the Kazakh company in the SDN sanctions list will result in the blocking of all its assets within the United States and a ban on any transactions with American partners. In addition, any foreign financial institution that engages with Tour Invest LLC risks being subjected to secondary sanctions.

U.S. authorities made this decision after suspecting the Almaty enterprise of cooperating with Iranian airline Mahan Air. According to their information, the Kazakh organization acted as a local intermediary in providing services of the carrier.

Journalists note that Mahan Air has been targeted by the U.S. Treasury since 2011. American officials believe the airline supports the elite Quds Force unit of the IRGC.
