Will Direct Flights from Kazakhstan to the US Be Profitable?

Authorities expect Kazakhstan to obtain the right to operate direct flights to New York by the end of the year

A direct air route between Kazakhstan and the United States could become commercially viable thanks to expanding economic ties and Kazakhstan’s growing investment appeal. This was stated by Vice Minister of Transport Talgat LASTAYEV, NBK reports.

Responding to journalists’ questions about when direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States might be launched, Lastayev recalled that several weeks ago a team of auditors from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) visited Kazakhstan.

«There were around seven or eight inspectors. They worked here for a week. During the final briefing, they gave a fairly high assessment of the condition of our civil aviation system and its compliance with international standards. We expect the final official report from the US Federal Aviation Administration in November. We believe that by the end of the year Kazakhstan will officially obtain the right to operate flights to the United States. At least, that is the goal we have set for ourselves,» the vice minister explained.

The primary route currently under consideration is New York-Astana.

«It is a long-haul route, but given how relations between our countries are developing, how much demand there is for Kazakhstan today, and considering the growth of investment and the economy, I believe this route will be profitable. Naturally, any new route requires time to build up traffic, but over time it will undoubtedly become commercially successful,» Talgat Lastayev said.
