Kazakhstan to Develop Wealth Tax Within a Month

A package of targeted amendments to the Tax Code will be developed

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas BEKTENOV has instructed the government to study international experience and determine the main approaches to taxing wealthy Kazakhstanis within a month.

According to Report, citing the press service of the Kazakh government, the prime minister made the announcement at a government meeting today.

The statement noted that Kazakhstan’s Ministry of National Economy has been tasked with finalizing a package of targeted amendments to the Tax Code and promptly coordinating them with relevant government agencies.

“The separate issue is the taxation of holders of large fortunes. The Ministries of National Economy and Finance must, within one month, study international experience and propose approaches to the taxation of exceptionally wealthy citizens,” Bektenov said.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance has been instructed to take measures to improve tax collection at the local level and reduce the shadow economy, as well as complete the full digitalization of tax and customs administration, including the use of artificial intelligence tools.

Bektenov also emphasized the need to improve the investment attraction system and increase the real contribution of investments to economic development.
