The Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Hockey Federation, Rustam IBRAYEV, has stated the organization’s position regarding the decision to allow Russia back into international competitions.
Earlier, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) must permit Russian national teams to participate in international tournaments.
Several national hockey federations from European countries have announced that they will refuse to play against Russian teams.
“Reports have been circulating in a number of foreign media outlets and on social media claiming that the Kazakhstan Hockey Federation supports a boycott of Russian hockey players. This information is not true. Kazakhstan is a full member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and conducts its activities in strict accordance with its statutes and regulations.
We proceed from the understanding that decisions regarding the eligibility of national teams and the composition of participants in World Championships fall within the exclusive competence of the IIHF and should be made with due consideration of the positions of the competent judicial authorities and the applicable international sports regulations. The Kazakhstan Hockey Federation consistently advocates the development of international cooperation, fair sporting competition, and equal conditions for all participants,” Ibrayev said in a statement.
