How much money was spent on building the LRT in Astana over 10 years

The first phase of the LRT in Astana will open to passengers on May 16–17

City Transportation Systems reported on the amount of funding allocated for the construction of the first phase of the LRT in Astana, Kazinform reports.

According to Asylbek DUISSEBAYEV, Chairman of the Board of the company, the project cost under the 2016 contract amounted to $1.8 billion.

“The project cost was approved in 2016 and amounts to $1.8 billion. To date, the total sum has not changed. At the same time, technical specifications have been improved, the model and design of the trains have been modified, and landscaping has been carried out along the entire LRT line”, he clarified during a press tour of the LRT infrastructure.

He noted that 19 trainsets are planned for the LRT line: 15 will operate on the line, while 4 will remain in reserve. The length of one trainset will be 60 meters, height – 3.8 meters, width – 2.8 meters. The operational speed of the trains will reach 60 km/h, with a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

It should be recalled that the first phase of the LRT in Astana will open to passengers on May 16–17. The transport will operate daily from 06:00 to 23:00. According to the LRT operator’s estimates, passenger traffic in the initial period after launch will range from 25,000 to 45,000 people.
