Kazakhstan has agreed to purchase an additional 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia. The corresponding amendment to the contract with Gazprom was signed on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Vice Minister of Energy Kayirkhan TUTKYSHBAYEV reported. According to him, the additional volume is necessary to meet the rising domestic demand for gas.
The authorities continue to expand the gas transportation infrastructure and connect new settlements to the gas supply. Currently, 13.1 million Kazakh citizens, or 64.2% of the country’s population, have access to natural gas. This year, 27.3 billion tenge has been allocated from the budget for the development of gas infrastructure.
This will provide gas to another 32,000 people. At the same time, large infrastructure projects are being implemented in the country, including the construction of the second line of the main gas pipeline “Beineu – Bozoi – Shymkent” and a new pipeline to the Kostanay region with the participation of investors from Qatar. The Ministry of Energy believes that new projects and additional gas supplies will help strengthen the country’s energy security and meet the needs of the population and industry.
