The peak of marriages in the country over the past 20 years occurred in 2012–2013

In Kazakhstan, the number of marriages has been decreasing over the past 10 years, reports 24KZ.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of registered marriages fell from 148.8 thousand in 2015 to 116 thousand in 2025.

Thus, over the decade the figure dropped by almost 22%. The marriage rate also declined. If in 2015 there were 8.48 marriages per 1,000 people, by 2025 the figure was already 5.69. The highest marriage rate was recorded in Astana — 6.75 marriages per 1,000 people. The lowest rates were noted in Kyzylorda Region — 5.06, and West Kazakhstan Region — 5.1.

Experts link the higher rate in the capital to strong youth migration activity and the concentration of the working-age population.

It is noted that the peak of marriages in the country over the past 20 years occurred in 2012–2013 — at that time the figure was 9.8–9.9 marriages per 1,000 people. One of the reasons for the decline in marriages is the demographic wave: after the large generation of the late 1980s, the marriageable age was reached by the generation of the late 1990s, when birth rates were significantly lower.

In addition, Kazakhstani citizens are marrying later. The average age of first marriage over the past 10 years increased by 0.7 years for men and 0.6 years for women. In 2025 it reached 27.9 years for men and 25.3 years for women.
