The President of Kazakhstan believes that Russia’s participation in the organization would benefit all its members

Kassym-Jomart TOKAYEV has proposed inviting Russia to participate in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) or granting it observer status. The President of Kazakhstan made the statement at the 13th OTS Summit.

Speaking at the summit, Tokayev emphasized the importance of developing the «Organization of Turkic States Plus» format, which allows for broader cooperation with other countries. In his view, Russia’s involvement in the organization’s activities would help strengthen its international standing.

«In order to enhance the authority of our Organization, it would be the right and fair decision to respond positively to Russia’s intention and invite it to join this format or participate in the activities of the OTS as an observer. As a major power, Russia has maintained close ties with the Turkic world for centuries. Representatives of many Turkic peoples have historically lived within the territory of this country,» Tokayev said.

The President also noted that Russia is promoting the «Altai, the Cradle of Turkic Civilization» project, which Kazakhstan supports. In addition, he highlighted Russia’s historical and linguistic connections with Turkic peoples. In particular, Tokayev pointed out that many words in the Russian language are of Turkic origin.

«Overall, if Russia were to become part of the Turkic countries, that is, our organization, it would benefit all of our states,» the head of state said.
