A “soft” approach will help maintain market stability for at least the next quarter

Gasoline prices in Kazakhstan will rise by one tenge per month. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, according to AstanaTV.

On April 1, the moratorium on fuel price increases expired. Most drivers expected a sharp and noticeable spike in prices. However, for now, everything remains calm at gas stations across the country. Officials promise a gradual adjustment of prices.

Despite the end of the moratorium, the situation at gas stations has not yet changed. For example, AI-92 gasoline in Astana can be purchased for around 240 tenge per liter. According to the Ministry of Energy, this figure has not changed over the past six months.

The ministry emphasizes that lifting the moratorium does not mean uncontrolled price growth. The state will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that prices at gas stations change in a reasonable and smooth manner.

“The approach remains gradual and targeted, without sharp or economically unjustified decisions. Fuel prices are formed by the market. At the same time, the situation remains under constant supervision of state authorities, with a focus on preventing unjustified price fluctuations and protecting consumer interests,” said Assel SERIKPAYEVA, official representative of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

Independent experts also see no reason for a sharp price surge.

“I am confident that these measures–one tenge per month–are ideal at the moment to avoid an inflationary shock. There is a clear plan and a clear vision. The Ministry of Energy is regulating this issue very precisely, and a shortage is unlikely,” said Muratbek MAKHANOV, an oil and gas industry expert.

The speaker added that this “soft” strategy will help maintain market stability for at least the next quarter. Whether price spikes can be avoided in the long term remains to be seen.
