This will significantly strengthen the capacity of the national fleet

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Nurlan SAURANBAYEV, announced plans to develop the country’s civil maritime fleet and expand its participation in international transportation across the Caspian Sea, Kazinform reports.

Speaking at parliamentary hearings, the head of the ministry noted that more than 150 vessels with Kazakh participation are currently operating on the Caspian Sea.

According to him, Kazakh vessels are actively involved in transporting oil and container cargo.

– Kazakh vessels transport oil and containers. For example, along the Aktau–Makhachkala route, 100% of oil transportation is carried out by the Kazakh side; in the direction of Baku, 50% is handled by Kazakhstan and 50% by Azerbaijani tankers. 72% of container transportation is carried out by Kazakh vessels, – Sauranbayev said.

At the same time, he pointed out that part of the transportation, including grain shipments to Iran, is carried out by foreign vessels due to external restrictions and payment-related difficulties. Ferry transportation is currently fully provided by the Azerbaijani side.

Sauranbayev added that the construction of 12 new vessels is planned by 2029, which will significantly enhance the capacity of the national fleet.

According to him, the implementation of these measures will ensure the stable functioning of the Middle Corridor transport route and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in international logistics.
