The National Bank of Kazakhstan plans to fully renew the banknote series by 2027. Currently, the monetary regulator is preparing to issue a new 20,000 tenge banknote, Kazinform reports.
According to Timur SULEIMENOV, Chairman of the National Bank, the phased renewal of banknotes continues in the country, while old series notes are gradually being withdrawn from circulation.
At present, both the old and new versions of the 10,000 tenge banknote are in parallel circulation. The next stage will be the release of the updated 20,000 tenge banknote.
– We already have it, we showed the designs, but there is the process of producing banknotes and preparing banks and the entire ATM network. Cash circulation is not a simple matter, so the 20,000 will appear later. Next year we will release the 20,000, and with that the banknote series will be fully updated, – Suleimenov explained at a briefing.
He also added that no decisions have yet been made regarding coin updates.
– I cannot say anything about coins; no decisions have been made so far. We always have various plans regarding cash circulation, but no decision has been taken yet.
