Government of Kazakhstan to remain in office till approval of new Government

The current composition of the Government will remain in office until a new Government is approved

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart TOKAYEV has signed a decree providing for the continued performance of duties by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan following the resignation of the Government before the newly elected Kurultai. Under the decree, the current composition of the Government will remain in office until a new Government is approved, El.kz reports citing Akorda.

The decree was signed at Akorda on August 28 , 2026. The decision is based on the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Constitutional Law “On the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”

The document states:

“The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall continue to perform its duties until the approval of the new composition of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”

The provision concerns the transitional period arising following the resignation of the Government before the newly elected Kurultai. During this period, the Government remains empowered to perform its functions until a new composition of the Government is formed.

The decree shall enter into force on the date of its signing.

The document also specifies that the decision was adopted pursuant to Paragraph 1 of Article 69 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Article 4 of the Constitutional Law “On the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
