How many Kazakhstani citizens own 6-10 apartments

Statistics revealed

In Kazakhstan, 17,000 people own between six and ten apartments. This figure was announced by Lazzat IBRAGIMOVA, Chairwoman of Otbasy Bank, in the Taldau Talks podcast, reports baq.kz.

Even if we take the minimum value – six apartments per person – that amounts to at least 102,000 apartments owned by these 17,000 individuals. The actual number may be significantly higher, since some own seven, eight, nine, or ten properties.

For comparison, according to Ibragimova, about 5.5 million Kazakhstani citizens have their own housing. Around 4.2 million own one apartment, 934,000 own two, 219,000 own three, and about 82,000 own four to five. Then comes a sharp jump: 17,000 people own between six and ten apartments. The reasons may vary. Some may have inherited property, while others purchase apartments as investments. But when one person owns six or more properties, it goes beyond simply solving their own housing needs.

This statistic once again raises the issue of housing affordability and tax policy. While the government discusses mortgages, construction, and support programs, the question remains: how is the existing housing stock distributed, and should large amounts of real estate in single hands be taxed differently?
