In Almaty, a robotaxi was presented to the Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Damir KOZHAKHMETOV.
The robotaxi will be introduced step by step – beginning with pilot mode and restricted testing. This format will allow technologies to be implemented with consideration of real urban conditions. The service is expected to include 24/7 dispatcher communication and trip insurance. The autonomous vehicle control system will be based on proven approaches to self-driving, including AI, continuous monitoring of road conditions, and carefully designed safety response scenarios. As experience accumulates and operational stability is confirmed, the service will be scaled up.
By order of the Head of State, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan is carrying out systematic work to establish a regulatory framework for robotaxi operations. Legislative amendments have been prepared to introduce key concepts, define the procedure for robotaxi use, allocate responsibilities among government agencies, and create the necessary legal infrastructure.
Global experience shows that driverless technologies are already successfully applied in several countries. For Kazakhstan, their introduction opens new opportunities for the development of high-tech sectors of the economy.
The most promising sites for pilot projects are considered to be Almaty and Astana, which have advanced digital infrastructure and essential elements of intelligent transport systems.
The rollout of robotaxi will be phased, with strict compliance to all safety requirements.
The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan will continue working to create conditions for the adoption of modern transport technologies, taking into account best international practices.
